Cancer Pain Study

Cancer Pain Study
Status: Completed.

To be eligible for this study, you must be at least 17 years of age and regularly experiencing at least one but no more than four episodes of breakthrough pain per day.

Study Details:

This study consists of 18 visits to our study site, over a 13-month period. Qualified participants will be compensated for time and travel expenses.

Study Background:

More than two thirds of late-stage cancer patients experience chronic, persistent pain associated with their disease. This pain can be typically managed by regularly scheduled pain medication.

However, more than half of all cancer related pain patients also experience ’breakthrough pain’ – sudden episodes of acute pain that lasts about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the patient’s standard pain medication provides little or no relief during these episodes. Even still, oral administration of quick release, opioid-based pain medications often do not provide optimal relief before the breakthrough pain episodes ends.

To pre-qualify for this study, you must be 17 years of age or older, and be experiencing on average, persistent cancer related pain of no more than moderate intensity and be currently receiving stable medication for the relief of breakthrough pain in order to comply with study procedures and required study participation visits.
